Over the past several weeks I have been reading on a lot of self-proclaimed SEO and SERP people’s websites and I get the distinct impression that the future of SEO and SERP is going to be largely dependent on social interaction between the website and its readers. I have also gotten the distinct impression that the “blogroll” links that many blogs have will not be given any weight in the foreseeable future Google indexing algorithms.
So, what does that mean to me? First of all, I think that it means that a website should have an associated Facebook page. This is going to become more important down the road. Also Google Places, Google +1, and any other Google social thing has going on. After all, I think it only makes sense that Google is going to be favoring their products over any other. I think that it means that I might as well remove my blogroll widgets. All they are doing is taking up space on the blog. If a blog is a mature blog, that blogroll takes up valuable “real estate” (space) that would be better put to good use by putting in a tag cloud or a Facebook widget that displays an associated Facebook page or other Social Media product in use.
Additionally, it suggests to me that it would probably be a very good thing for businesses to incorporate a blog into their website. The blog would be a good place to dole out tips and perhaps run opinion polls. I think that in the spirit of showing “social interaction” that it would be appropriate for the blog to have comments enabled. When Google does its future indexing, if their robotic spiders find comments on the website I suspect that would make the Google spiders very happy. And I don’t know about you, but I want happy spiders, don’t you?

For the past 4 3/4 years I have been writing as a part-time job. I am a blogger and copy writer. (A copy writer is a person that writes “copy” such as a printed advertisement for a newspaper, magazine, web page.) As such I write about a lot of different products and services. I help their websites be found on the first website of Search Engine Results for their keywords (an example would be “Scentsy Warrenton VA or Mary Kay Warrenton VA or Amway Warrenton.) I have been working with several large advertising agencies across the country as an independent contractor to write copy for their clients.
A few months ago my doctor gave me some challenging news – he told me that I should not drive a car any more. (I won’t bore you with details.) That was when I decided to start writing full-time from home. I decided to expand my services to include local businesses. I have been joining Chambers of Commerce and attending networking meetings when I can get someone to drive me there. I have been telling the local businesses that I am one of the Internet’s “best kept and most valuable secrets” and that I can help them to market their web page, which WILL increase their public exposure and through that method will increase their sales.

Nothing like a little bit of knowledge to make someone realize how much there is that they don’t know! This is the last week of the Facebook/Twitter “Blast” that I signed up for. I still don’t think I have any idea of what I am doing here, but that is OK I guess. I AM getting the opportunity to read lots of people’s pages and tweets and finding a lot of people with similar interests, and others with fresh perspectives, so I think that is a good thing.
Participants in this “Blast” are entered in a drawing to win a gift card. I don’t even care if I win or not, just “meeting” all of the other folks has been enough reward for me!

When someone in my family, or my circle of friends tells me that they have a cold, the first thing I encourage them to do is to suck on zinc lozenges, drink plenty of ginger ale or tea, and take Mucinex.
In my opinion, if the medical practitioners were truly interested in keeping their patients healthy they would be giving out sample bags of zinc lozenges and Mucinex, and then encouraging their patients to use the zinc every day as preventative measures, and the Mucinex if and when they start to develop thick mucus. And to drink lots and lots of fluids if they feel as if they are coming down with a cold. There has been a lot of research to show that using zinc lozenges is very effective in combating many viruses, including the ones that cause the common cold. The active ingredient in Mucinex is guaifenesin, and that has been proven to thin mucus. This is important because when someone has the common cold, the mucus tends to thicken. When the mucus is thick, it does not drain out of the sinuses and the chest. The longer the mucus stays in the sinuses and chest, the longer the natural bacteria present in the mucus has to multiply. At some point this bacteria can multiply to the point where the doctor will proclaim that now the patient has an infection which now needs to be treated with antibiotics and steroids. Guaifenesin thins the mucus in the sinuses and in the chest, and that will help prevent the bacteria from multiplying. Drinking lots of fluids also helps to keep the mucus thin, and helps to prevent dehydration, which has its own set of problems.
I have found that if I start to use zinc lozenges on the very first day that I start to have a runny or congested nose, or a hint of a sore throat, and continue to use them for several days the cold never progresses to the point where I actually feel miserable – I only feel like I’m “fighting” a cold for about three or four days, and then I’m fine.

It wasn’t until after I signed up for the four weeks of the Facebook and Twitter blast that I realized that if the event was going to be alternating between the two that the smart thing to do would be for me to set up two different twitter accounts and then two different Facebook accounts. Oh well…. next time!
I have set up a second Facebook page – hopefully I can arrange for the final week to be having the last week of the Facebook Blast to be sending some love to that page.
I’m a bit confused, concerned that I might be doing something wrong because there are a lot more likes and follows than I expected to get. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really GLAD of that, but I keep wondering if I am supposed to be doing something more than what I have been doing! Well, whatever happens I hope that no one gets angry with me and says “you were supposed to be doing XXXXXX and you didn’t and now we all hate you!”
I DO know I am supposed to be putting some graphics on this blog post, to be letting any readers be able to participate in the Blast. So, here they are!
